✈️ Virgin Atlantic shaves 1/3 off their award pricing

Plus, we've got a solid car rental deal for you (today only), a way to get cheap flights for an entire year, and a funny video to finish off the week on a high note.

Estimated read time: 4 minutes and 42 seconds

🎙️ Did you have a busy week and miss a few Daily Drops? Don’t worry, I’m not mad. You can get a summary of the entire week of content by listening to our 10-minute Weekly Round-Up.

Good morning and happy Black Friday. I don’t know why, but I feel like there haven’t been a ton of great travel deals this week…

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all of the good stuff comes on Travel Tuesday next week.

In the meantime, here are some fun “pretty good” deals for y’all:

  • ✈️ Virgin Atlantic 33% award sale

  • 🚗 Avis Black Friday deal

  • 🌎 FareDrop Black Friday

  • 🦃 Funny Thanksgiving travel skit

  • 💳 Current Transfer bonuses

✈️ Virgin Atlantic 33% award sale

Oh, did I say I’d have some “pretty good” deals for you today? I meant EXTREMELY good.

Because for the next few days, Virgin Atlantic is offering a 33% discount on award flights across their entire network.

Here are the deets:

  • Valid for flights booked by the end of the day on November 27th

  • Travel can take place through September 30th, 2024

  • Only valid on Virgin Atlantic flights, not partner awards

  • Applies to all classes of service (Economy, Premium, Business)

  • Discounted rates will be reflected in the search

  • Taxes and fees will not be discounted at all (😭)

Wowza. Shaving one-third off the price for one of the best airlines in the sky is pretty epic, in my opinion…

It’s common knowledge that you can fly between the U.S. and U.K. on Virgin Atlantic for as little as 10,000 miles.

With this sale, that goes down to just 6,700 points.

Okay… I just gotta say… it is BONKERS how many times in the last six months we’ve seen deals to get to Europe for 5,000-7,000 points…

It is (and this is true) a crazy time to be alive.

As you can see from the image above, this sale also applies to premium cabins. So you could fly in Virgin’s Upper Class (one of the best business-class seats in the sky) for just 31,000 miles.

Of course, you’re still on the hook for the sky-high taxes and surcharges of almost $1,000, which I personally would never pay to fly a seat like that…

Would you pay almost $1,000 in taxes and fees to fly a business-class seat like this?

I think there are so many good business class options out there where you can pay under $100 in fees for an equally exciting flight… But that’s just me!

Overall, this is excellent. Given how easy it is to transfer points from popular credit cards like the [[ capital-one-venture-x-rewards-credit-card.name ]] and the [[ chase-sapphire-preferred-card.name ]] (or even the [[ american-express-gold-card.name ]]) to Virgin Atlantic, now is a GREAT time to book your 2024 flights and save some points in the process.

🚗 Avis Black Friday deal

Honestly, I don’t know when the heck we last talked about a car rental deal… 👀

And that’s probably because car rentals don’t really bring us a ton of exciting perks.

But I’ve got a deal for you today that is actually pretty decent. Check it 👇

That’s right. Avis is running a Black Friday Sale at participating U.S. locations that they’re awkwardly calling “Car-Cation.”

The name is a bit cringe, but I’ll give it a chance.

So if you’re planning a post-Thanksgiving road trip, or maybe if you’re visiting family across the country for the December holiday season and need a car rental… this could be for you.

You could get up to 25% off a minimum three-day day rental from Avis. PLUS, you’ll be awarded one free rental day for future use. 🎉

Not too shabby, I gotta say.

Here are some additional deets to be aware of:

  • You have until November 30th to book

  • Rental must begin on or before 12/15/23

  • Use code S032600 to apply the promo

  • Your free day must begin between 1/5/24 and 5/15/24 (you’ll receive further instruction on this after completion of your initial rental)

  • You can’t combine this with any other offers

  • Holiday and other blackout periods may apply

Just doing a mock search, I found that simply putting in an itinerary that had three or more days automatically triggered the promo👇

One free day for a car rental could easily be worth upwards of $75 or $100 depending which car you reserve. You could even try going for an absolute baller car to get the most value possible.

BUT WAIT.

What if I told you that you could get even more perks out of this if you held a certain credit card?

One of the most premium travel credit cards on the market ([[ the-platinum-card-from-american-express.name ]]) actually has some interesting perks specific to Avis.

I’m talking additional perks like priority rental car upgrades, vouchers for a free weekend (after meeting certain requirements), and additional discounts on bookings (among other stuff!).

And how do you make this happen?

By enrolling in the Avis President’s Club using a promo code whose name I can’t say in the newsletter… but one that you’ll find on this page. 😏

Additionally, make sure you book directly with Avis or with your card’s Travel & Dining Concierge and use your Avis President’s Club number when booking.

P.S. If you’re already an Avis loyalty member and are a cardholder of the [[ the-platinum-card-from-american-express.casual-card-name ]], you can upgrade to the President’s Club by visiting this page.

🌎 FareDrop Black Friday

We couldn’t let Black Friday come and go without giving you a gentle reminder about one of the best travel deals on the market right now.

And you may think I’m biased (because FareDrop and Daily Drop are sibling companies), but I genuinely think this is an incredible deal.

In case you didn’t know, I’ve been a FareDrop customer since the first DAY that it launched all those years ago.

But rather than give you the rundown on the deal itself (which includes a free travel eBook, t-shirt, and more), I’ll let these sexy beasts tell you all about it themselves:

If you don’t recognize these folks, they’re Kara and Nate. They started FareDrop and Daily Drop and are currently in the Maldives at the very hotel we’re giving away a trip to.

So check out that video, enter the giveaway, get your FareDrop membership, and then come finish the newsletter (please).

🦃 Funny Thanksgiving travel skit

I saw this hilarious skit on SNL the other night and had to share it with you…

If you’ve ever experienced the nightmare that is traveling in the U.S. close to Thanksgiving, you’ll find this funny.

💳 Current Transfer bonuses

That’s all for this week, friends. I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving, got some good deals on Black Friday, and have a relaxing weekend.

I look forward to another exciting week with you all, and I’ll see you bright and early on Monday morning. ❤️
