šŸ˜® This helped me book business class

This was the easiest award booking I've ever made. Plus, is everything we know about the 5/24 rule a lie??

Good morning, and happy November! Itā€™s been a very exciting week here at Daily Dropā€¦ā€¦. šŸ‘€

If you tuned in at all this week, then you know the secret is outā€¦ and itā€™s in the form of our new toolā€”Daily Drop Pro.

Letā€™s get to chatting about that and all the other cool happenings from this week šŸ‘‡

āœ… Hyatt is sending out some more great offers. Check your accounts!

āœ… Virgin Atlantic has moved to dynamic award pricing, but itā€™s not all badā€¦

āœ… Our latest YouTube video features a comprehensive walkthrough of the brand-new Daily Drop Pro!

āœ… Hereā€™s an update on the crazy SAS Million Mile challenge.

šŸ† Favorite pick of the week: Daily Drop Pro Launch

The excitement has been high at the ā€œvirtualā€ DD headquarters this week, and thatā€™s because we launched our incredible travel toolā€”Daily Drop Pro!

Daily Drop Pro

Daily Drop Pro was created to be your one-stop shop to:

  1. Easily search for flights and hotels (whether with points or cash!)

  2. Receive cheap airfare deal alerts

  3. Organize your credit cards and points in a virtual wallet

  4. And engage with a like-minded community in our Pro Lounge

ā€¼ļø Before I continue: Our special launch price of just $99 a year FOR LIFE ends at midnight on Monday, November 4th. After that, itā€™ll increase to $149. So donā€™t wait to sign up!

For starters, this newsletter section is waaaay too short to give you an in-depth breakdown. If you want to learn how to use all of DD Proā€™s features, Iā€™d highly recommend our YouTube video that does just that.

But as someone who considers themselves a pro at this travel stuff, I still find the travel planning process to be cumbersome, exhausting, and overwhelming at timesā€¦

Whatā€™s wild is that the very first day I played around with DD Pro before it was even live to the public, I decided to try and find an award flight for an actual trip I was hoping to take early next yearā€¦

I had been eyeing a business class flight from Vancouver to Frankfurt for 70,000 Aeroplan miles, but when I put in that exact route in the DD Pro search, it presented me with this šŸ‘‡

DD Pro search result

The second option showed me I could get that same Lufthansa business class seat for just 63,000 Avianca LifeMiles šŸ˜®

Needless to say, I booked that flight immediately and saved myself 7,000 precious miles in the process.

Additionally, DD Pro also has a ā€œCompare with Cashā€ option which promptly showed me Iā€™d have to fork over $6,269 if I wasnā€™t using miles. Gulp.

That brings my valuation to a whopping 10 cents per point which is CRAZY good.

Now if that isnā€™t a real-world example of how great DD Pro is, then I donā€™t know what is!

And there is SO much more to this tool (again, check out our YouTube vid), and we are so proud of it šŸ„¹

We hope itā€™ll be a game-changer for your future travel planning, but remember, the special launch price of $99 for life ends at midnight on November 4th!!

šŸ„‡Is the 5/24 rule dead?

5 credit cards

Ah, the 5/24 ruleā€”an unwritten rule that belongs to this bank and has fueled travel lore for years.

To be less dramatic about it, this ā€œruleā€ says that the bank in question wonā€™t allow you to apply for a new credit card if youā€™ve signed up for five or more cards in the previous 24 months.

Get it? 5ā€¦ 24ā€¦

But whatā€™s interesting, is that both myself and Mike may have accidentally broken this rule šŸ‘€

I was approved for TWO cards (our most popular one and this hotel card) while sitting at 5/24 and 6/24, respectively.

WILD.

I took a gamble, and it worked.

Mike was also approved for this business card while sitting at his very own 5/24 limit.

So, should that stop you from applying for a new card if you reeeeally want it and youā€™re ā€œoverā€ the limit?

You can draw your own conclusions from this, butā€¦ Is the 5/24 rule dead?! Orā€¦ what the heck?!

Mike provides a bit more of an explanation in our original newsletter section, so if this interests you, Iā€™d check it out šŸ˜Ž

šŸ„ˆ Get your mileage runs in before the end of the year

Itā€™s that time of year again when all the travel nerds who want elite status take a look at the drawing board and see if we need to book any flights before the end of the year.

But these flights often donā€™t have an actual trip attached to themā€¦ If thatā€™s the case, itā€™s properly called a ā€œmileage run.ā€

Mileage Run graphic

To be clear, a mileage run is when you book a flight that you really donā€™t need to take otherwiseā€¦

Itā€™s more about completing the flight, getting the miles, or collecting whatever else is needed to help you reach elite status before everything resets back to zero.

If youā€™re close to reaching a certain elite status, this might be a last-ditch effort to get it.

After all, elite status usually comes with some nice perks for the following yearā€”things like priority boarding, extra checked bags, maybe even lounge access šŸ˜

But obviously booking an extra flight costs money, so you also have to evaluate if the cash cost to do this will be worth the elite status youā€™ll hold for the following year.

If you want more context and some specific examples of a mileage run, check that out here!

I have nothing left to say butā€¦ Have a great rest of your weekend!!

See you next time ā˜ŗļø
