✈️ Think planes are bad for the environment? Think again… a Boeing 747 uses only about half as much fuel (per person) as the average car.
Good morning and a very happy Monday to you all. I’m still reeling from last week’s news about Southwest… I think pretty much everyone I know now has a Companion Pass for the next year, which is pretty awesome.
But I’m curious about y’all:
Did you open a Southwest card for the free companion pass? |
As I mentioned last week, this is probably the best travel hack I’ve ever seen. So don’t let it pass you by - it’s only available for a short time. Here’s a link that explains everything.

🛳️ Cruise news: how to book a cruise for two on points
Last week I told you about how you can use Virgin Atlantic to book some incredible “sweet-spot” flight awards using points.
Well, my friends, Virgin is back at it again with the epic deals - this time in the cruise world.
Right now, you can use many different points currencies to book a cruise for two people for only 80,000 points total with Virgin Voyages.
Now before I get to how you can use basically any type of transferrable points to book this, let me tell you why this is such a great opportunity to get extremely good value from those points.
Virgin Voyages are known for being some of the most luxurious cruises in the world, with great deals on premium cabins and sleek new ships.
These cruises are bookable using Virgin Red points. If you’ve never heard of this point currency before, that’s okay. Basically, Virgin points are all the same, and Virgin Red is what they call the whole family of points.
That means that these points are interchangeable with Virgin Atlantic miles, which you can easily earn by transferring points from Chase, Capital One, Citi, American Express, or Bilt, which is to say almost any card on this list.
Here are a few examples of cruises you could book and how many points they each cost:
5-night cruise departing from Miami - 80,000 points
7-night cruise departing from Barcelona - 100,000 points
5-night cruise departing from Barcelona - 80,000 points
Basically, most cruises leaving from these two cities are eligible for this awesome deal.
To make things even sweeter, these prices are for their Sea Terrace Cabins, which include a nice balcony and lovely, modern rooms:
Most cruise deals like this usually leave you stuck in a tiny, windowless room that feels more like a cave than a luxury hotel room. But Virgin Voyages is different.
To make things even better, Virgin will let you bring a guest with you for no additional charge, another rare situation in the cruise world.
Here’s why this is such a great option for using your hard-earned points:
These cruises regularly cost anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000, sometimes even more. For example, this cruise from Miami would run you over $2,400.
With this deal, you could book the same cruise, for two people, for only 80,000 points.
Virgin points are typically worth about 1.5 cents each. So 80,000 points are usually worth $1,200. In this case, however, you’re getting double that amount of value (since the value of the cruise is $2,400).
This is certainly one of the better cruise opportunities we’ve seen, and one of the few that you can use easy-to-earn points to book. I might book one myself, now that I think about it.
🍪 Travel tidbits from the news
There’s been a lot of fun stuff going on in the travel/aviation world recently. Here are a few highlights for you to dig into during your lunch break today:

Air Passenger rights in the U.S. could see some big changes in the near future
✈️ The world’s best airline is showing some love on Valentine’s Day
As we all know, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. And what better way to celebrate than booking a flight on the world’s best airline (according to certain entities) with a hefty discount?
Qatar Airways is offering a sale right now where you can book a ticket and get a second ticket for another guest for 25% off.
On the surface, this might not seem particularly exciting. But I am personally really excited about it. Qatar, despite being an amazing, premium airline, actually has really reasonable prices on long-haul routes.
Given their presence in just about every corner of the world, this could be a great opportunity to book a trip for you and a loved one in style.
The deal is good for both Economy and Business, so even those of you who like to ball out can still save a chunk of change.
This flight from New York to Tanzania only costs $537 each way, or just under $1,100 round-trip.
That’s already a steal for a long-haul ticket in a premium airline, but it also means you could save $250 on the ticket for a guest.
Cheap prices, great airline, big savings. It really doesn’t get much better than that. So if you’re looking for a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift, here’s your answer.
That’s gonna finish things up here at Daily Drop. What an exciting time to be a traveler… Airlines, hotels, and credit cards all seem to be ramping things up after a slow Winter up until now…
Which deal/credit card/destination/anything are you most excited about for 2023? Let me know by replying to this email or reaching out on social media.
See you tomorrow, my loves ❤️
