✈️ Bilt is doing some heavy Lyft-ing

It's that time of month again. Plus, Marriott (might) revamp a key part of their loyalty program, and other fun bits of news from the travel world.

Did you know there is a group of about 200 Native Americans living within the walls of the Grand Canyon in their own village of Supai? Read more about it here.

💳 Bilt’s July Rent Day: Everyone gets free Lyft credits

It’s that time of the month again—the time when Bilt usually wows us with another Rent Day promotion.

But this month is different… because it’s kind of underwhelming…

But still, free travel and points are never a bad thing.

Here’s what’s up for this Rent Day:

Each Bilt member can receive a varying number of free Lyft credits on July 1st. The amount of credits you get is based on whether or not you hold the Bilt card.

Here is the breakdown:

  • Every Bilt member can activate the Rent Day offer to receive a $10 Lyft credit

  • Bilt Mastercard holders can receive a $20 Lyft credit

  • Any Bilt member who books a ride with Lyft on July 1st will receive an additional $5 credit

  • You must have your Bilt and Lyft accounts linked for this to work (which you should do anyway)

Look… this is a far cry from some of their recent promos like Hyatt Globalist fast track and 100% transfer bonus to Flying Blue.

At the same time, $25 of free money on ride-share apps is pretty darn sweet, too.

And that’s not all. As always, Bilt cardholders will earn double points on all non-rent purchases on the first day of the month.

Here are the normal earning rates for the Bilt card:

  • 3 points per dollar on dining

  • 2 points per dollar on travel

  • 1 point per dollar on everything else

On the first of every month, however, this is what you’ll earn:

  • 6 points per dollar on dining

  • 4 points per dollar on travel

  • 2 points per dollar on everything else (except for rent, which is still one point per dollar)

Even though it’s only for a single day out of the month, those are still incredibly high earning rates. It also allows you to be strategic about making certain purchases since you know exactly when these elevated earning rates will happen.

For example, if you know that you are going to take a trip, you could book bits and pieces of it on the first day of every month and earn 4x points per dollar from the trip.

You could then take those points and transfer them to any of Bilt’s 14 transfer partners, including Hyatt, American Airlines, United, and more.

This rent day may not be up to par with some of the best ones in recent history. So I’d like to take this moment to send a message to Bilt.

*Ahem*

Hey Bilt. You’re great. But please do better next month.

Love you,

Mike

🌎 Where in the World Wednesday

G’day, mates! Today, we’re going down unda’ to Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺 It’s the land of khakis and kangaroos, but we all know Australia is way more than that…

FareDrop has sent this killer deal not only out of LAX, but also from Dallas, Miami, and Seattle (whoo!) 👇

In case you weren’t aware, if you live in the U.S., Australia is pretty dang far away. So $699 for flights that long is, in fact, pretty killer.

For Sydney starters, who doesn’t love a stroll on the beach? And when that 6km beach stroll is called the Bondi to Coogee… I love it even more. It’s also just plain freaking beautiful—so there’s that.

If you’re down for some stunning architecture, it’s no question that you gotta go to the iconic Opera House. I don’t even need to put a picture here because you’re already seeing it in your mind… it’s just that iconic.

Sydney’s food game is also hella strong, and the Australians love their “brekkie.” You’ll find just about every version of avocado toast imaginable… something they delightfully call “avo smash” 🤜

If you’re on the hunt for said smashed avo and also want to visit one of the trendiest open-air markets in the area, head to the Bondi Markets to shop, eat, drink, and chill (those are orders, per their website).

Oh… and if you want a different view of the Sydney Harbor, head to Wendy’s Secret Garden. But shh… it’s kind of a secret 😏

Have you ever been to Sydney? FareDrop could be the deal that takes you there!

That’s all for today, folks. Let’s finish things off with a fun question about non-existent travel destinations:

Which fictional destination would you most like to visit for a vacation?
