✈️ Delta is giving out elite status
Plus, Southwest is back with a familiar offer for a Companion Pass.

✈️ As the U.S. gears up for Memorial Day travel, Airlines for America expects carriers to transport around 271 million passengers globally this summer, a 6.3% increase from last year. That means U.S. airlines will offer over 26,000 flights daily, nearly 1,400 more than last summer. 🤯 Read more here.
Good morning and welcome back to Daily Drop!
Before we get into some exciting content for you U.S. domestic travelers, I wanted to mention that we’ll be taking Monday off in lieu of Memorial Day 🇺🇸
Not to worry though, as we’ll be back in your inboxes first thing Tuesday morning!
Now let’s get straight into it:
👬 Earn a Southwest Companion Pass with one flight
The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the best deals in the biz. We’ve written about it so much at this point that I’ll assume you know what it is.
If you don’t know, you can check out any of these newsletters for a bit more context:
Right now, there is a unique opportunity to earn a month-long Companion Pass by simply completing one round-trip flight.
The catch?
That flight needs to be to Hawaii.
Here is the deal:
If you book a round-trip flight to or from Hawaii (or two one-ways) by TODAY and complete the flights between June 1st and July 31st, you’ll get a Companion Pass valid from October 5th through November 15th, 2024.
Yes, it’s kind of annoying… and you’ll want to re-read those terms a few times to make sure you understand.
But still, given the popularity of Hawaii as a destination, this could be an easy win.
For example, in late June, you can fly from Oakland to Kahului for just $169, which is pretty sweet.
Wait a minute…
Wtf? Is that screenshot from Google Flights?? I thought Southwest flights didn’t show up on Google Flights…
That’s right, folks… Southwest flight prices now appear on Google Flights!!!
That’s a huge announcement in itself and GREAT news for domestic flyers.
But back to the original point…
Spending about $300 to fly round-trip to Hawaii could be well worth it if either of the following two scenarios apply to you:
You were already planning on flying to Hawaii, or
Having the Companion Pass for one month would SAVE you more than $300.
So run the numbers, check out some flights, and see if this could work for you. Just remember that you need to register for this offer and book your flights by today.
✈️ Delta is giving status to some members
Many of you lucky ducks woke up yesterday to see a delightful email from none other than Delta that looked a little something like this…
Tons of Delta flyers have just been gifted Silver Medallion Status for six months, entirely out of the blue.
While it’s unfortunate that not everybody has received this gift, it still provides some nice benefits for those who did, including:
Free checked bag on Delta flights
Preferred seat selection
Upgrades on Delta flights (lol yeah right)
That’s not bad at all, and will definitely motivate people to take advantage of these perks and choose Delta over other airlines.
But it gets even more interesting…
You see, there’s another component to this offer, allowing flyers the chance to extend this status through May 2025.
Essentially, if you earn $2,500 MQDs during the period for which you’ve been gifted Silver status, you’ll extend that status through mid-2025.
That’s insane… and it would give you more than two years of status from this one promo.
If you were planning a summer getaway to Europe and wanted to book a nice business-class flight, you could knock out this requirement in one round-trip.
Of course, since you have six months to complete this requirement, you could extend your status by simply earning 417 MQDs per month, which is not crazy at all for many flyers.
You may also remember that until late next month, you can earn MQDs from hotel stays (read more in this newsletter).
Between these options, frequent travelers (and even less frequent ones) should have no problem extending their status through May 2025.
Anyway, this is a fun and surprising move from Delta, and I hope tons of you check your inboxes and see the email from them. 🤞
